This tutorial will show you how you can create your own fun animations to add to your tags. When doing this, only use images that allow you to animate. Your best bet is clipart. If you want to use artist graphics, please make sure to check the TOU (Terms of Use). Many artists' TOU will specifically outline what types of animations, if any, are allowed with their art.
We will be utilizing the following PSP Components:
Flood Fill Tool (Paint Can)
Masks
Copy and Pasting Images
Layers
Resizing
Erasing Parts of Images
Animation
Copying and Pasting Frames
Frame Properties from Frame to Frame
Propagate Paste
Replace Color
Optimization Wizard

Flood Fill Setting
Match Mode None, Blend Mode Normal Opacity 100
Drop Shadow Settings:
Vertical Offset 2, Horizontal Offset 2, Opacity 80 Blur 5, Color White
Vertical Offset 2, Horizontal Offset 2, Opacity 80 Blur 5, Color Black
Creating the Basic Tag and the Flower Animation Tag
Step 1
Open up your tube graphic, a new transparent image 600 width by 600 height and the daisy flower mask.
At the Material Palette, select a deep solid color that will coordinate with your tube graphic. Flood fill the transparency with that color.
Step 2
Go to Layers/New Mask Layer/From Image. At the source window's drop down menu, locate daisy flower mask with source luminance checked. Nothing else should be checked. Click ok.
Step 3
Go To Layer/Merge/Merge Group
Step 4
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use the settings from above. Be sure that the color you use for your drop shadow is white which will bring out the beauty of the flower pattern in the mask.
Step 5
Go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible.
Step 6
Open up the misted flowers tube and go to Edit/Copy. Make the tag image active and go to Edit/Paste as New Layer. Go to Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Left click the mover tool and move the flowers beneath the tag.
Step 7
Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and flood fill this layer with a color that will match the background where your tag will be posted. Different forums, web sites, or blogs all have different backgrounds ranging from white, to off white, to blue, pink, etc. In order for your tag to blend, do select a color choice that will work where your tag will be offered, posted, etc.
Go to Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom.
Step 8
Make your tube graphic active and go to Edit/Copy. Make the tag image active and go to Edit/Paste as New Layer. If the image needs resizing, go to Image/Resize using the percent option, bicubic and resize all layers NOT checked.
Step 9
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use the settings from above, but this time use the one with the color, black.
Step 10
Go to Image/Resize using the percent option at 90%, bicubic and resize all layers checked.
Step 11
Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and add your copyright information
Step 12
Open up the flower pot and copy and paste it to the tag.
Step 13
Go to Layers/Merge/Merge All (flatten) and save this file as a psp file.
Step 14
Open up the flower tube and duplicate it (click the shift and D keys) and close the original flower tube. We will be working with the duplicate tube only.
Step 15
For the first layer of the flower tube, we will be keeping the full flower image intact. On other layers will be erasing parts of this flower until we are are only left with the small stem at the bottom of the flower. Go to Layers/Duplicate.
Step 16
On this layer (layer 2), carefully erase the flower head and go to Layers/Duplicate.
Step 17
On this layer (layer 3), erase the stem until you get to the right leaf. Go to Layers/Duplicate.
Step 18
On this layer (layer 4), erase the right leaf but leave the stem and go to Layers/Duplicate.
Step 19
On this layer (layer 5), erase the stem but leave the left leaf and go to Layers/Duplicate.
Step 20
On this layer (layer 6), erase the left leaf and only leave a small portion of the stem remaining.
Step 21
You should now have 6 layers. Save this file as a psp file and call it flower growing.
Animation Shop
Step 1
Open up the flower file in Animation Shop and click the Control and A Keys to activate all the layers .
Step 2
Go to Animation/Reverse Frames
Step 3
Open up the Daisy tag. Go to Layers/Duplicate. Continuing dupicating until you have 7 frames. This animation will have one more frame than the flower animation. Go to View/Normal Viewing
Step 4
Holdng down the Control key, with your mouse, left click on frames 2 through 6 to activate them. Do not activate frame 1.
Step 5
Make the flower animation active. Holding down the control key, click the A key to activate all the frames. Go to Edit/Copy. Make the daisy tag image active and go to Edit/Paste into Selected Frame. Make sure you at the second frame of the tag animation and paste the stem directly into the flower pot on the tag. Release the left mouse button and all the flower frames should be on Frames 2 through Frame 6. We do not want the flower pasted on frame 1 because we want the animation to start out with no flower growth.
Step 6
Click the control and A keys so that all the frames in the tag animation are activated. Go to Animation/Frame Properties and change the frame property to 35. Left click the very last frame so that it is the only one activated. Go to Animation/Frame Properties and change this to 200.
Step 7
Before we continue to save the animation, click the Customize button to make sure you have all the correct settings for this animation. You should see two tabs: Colors and Optimizations
Colors
255 Colors, Optimized Octree and Error Diffusion should be checked. Do NOT USE Optimized Median Cut for this animation. You can, if you want, but you will find the animation becomes grainy when saved this way.
Optimizations
The middle three selections should be checked.
The top and bottom selections - unchecked.
After customizing the animation settings, click Ok and click Next and you will get the following screens:
Screen 1 Animation versus output Size - just click next.
Screen 2 Optimization process - just click next.
Screen 3 Optimization preview - just click next.
Screen 4 Optimization results - click finish.
Step 8
Save the file as a gif file (without the signature text). This will be your tag template. You can later add the signature and resave separately so that you can make additional tags for friends and forum/group members.
Adding Text In Paint Shop Pro
Open up the original tag psp file. Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and add your signature. On this same layer, apply one of the drop shadow settings from above. On the signature layer, go to Edit/Copy. You will be pasting the signature in Animation Shop. Just close the original psp file without making any changes to it.
Applying the Signature in Animation Shop
Step 1
Open up Animation Shop and go to Edit/Paste as New Animation.
Step 2
Make sure your animated tag is now open. Click the Control and A Keys to Activate all the frames.
Step 3
Make your text file active and go to Edit/Copy. Now go to Edit/Propagate Paste.
Step 4
Make the tag active and go to Edit/Paste into selected frame. Holding down the left mouse button, place the text exactly where you want it in the very first frame of the animation. Release the left mouse button and the text should now be in all the frames. Resave your animation with a new name.
Replacing Color
This animation is a bit tricky. If you use the Optimize Median Cut setting, you will end up with parts of your graphic looking grainy (not nice). But by using the optimize octree setting you will have a clear image but you will have a palette not the color you started with and the blending will not work. BUT THERE IS A REMEDY FOR THAT.
If this happened to you, (which it did for me), do the following:
Step 1
Click the Control and A Keys to Activate all Your Frames
Step 2
Go to Animation/Replace Color
Where it says replace color in - click ALL frames
Where it says replace old color - click the dropper tool and left click on the palette color (that is the color you want to change)
Where it says with - check on New Color and there left click the color box. When the color selection window opens up, type in the html number for the color you want for your background or click on the correct color box.
Click ok
Step 3
Go to File/Optimization Wizard
There should already be two things checked off -
Optimize for Animated Gif File
Replace the Current Animation with Optimized animation
Make sure the above is checked and click next
Continue to save the animation exactly as you did before. But this time, you wlll find your palette is the color that you want.
