Lightning Tag

This tutorial will be utilizing the following PSP Components:

Copy and Paste
Resizing
Layers
Animation

Copying and pasting animations on to new animation files
Changing Frame Properties
Propagate Paste

Needed:

Tube of Choice: The lovely tube image I am using is a Gorjuss image created by Suzanne Woolcott.

The Lightning PSP file created by VooDoo4u2nv and used with permission.

Ghost tubed by me from Microsoft Clipart Media.

Frame created by me.

You can download the supplies here.

Optional: Any added elements you wish to add for design.

SETTINGS USED IN THIS TUTORIAL

Magic Wand:
Mode: Add/Shift, Match Mode: RGB Value, Tolerance 6, Contiguous checked, Feather: 0, Anti-Alias checked and outside selected.

Step 1
Open up the lightning psp file by Voodoo and you will see that the template has a width of 560 and a height of 430. You will also note that there are 8 frames. Close the template. Open a new transparent image with the same dimensions. And open up the tube graphic and elements you wish to use for your tag.

Step 2
Make your tube graphic active and go to Edit/Copy. Make the transparent image active and go to Edit/Paste as New Layer. If the image is too large, go to Image/Resize using the percent option, bicubic and resize all layers NOT checked.

Step 3
Copy and paste any additional elements you wish to have on your tag. Or, if you wish to add a moon, you can use your preset shape tool, set to oval and add that as well.

Step 4
Add your copyright information to the tag. When completed, go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible.

Step 5
Go to Layers/Duplicate and duplicate this layer 7 times so that you now have a total of 8 layers, the same number of layers that you have for the lightning psp file. Save this file as a psp or psd file.

Animation Shop Steps to Complete the tag

Step 1
At Animation Shop, go to File/Open and locate the psp or psd tag file. Go to View/Normal Viewing. You should see 8 frames. Click the Control and A keys to activate all the frames.

Step 2
Open up the lightning psp file and also go to View/Normal Viewing.

Step 3
Make your tag image active and Go to Edit/Copy. Make the lightning psp file active. Click the Control and A keys to activate all the frames. Go to the very first frame and go to Edit/Paste into selected frame. Holding down the left mouse button, place the tag graphic over the lightening template and release the left mouse button.

Step 4
Go to Animation/Resize Animation with percent of original at 90%, Smart Size and Maintain Aspect Ratio checked.

Adding the Decorative Frame to the Animation

Open the frame in animation shop and with the mouse, right click. Go to Layers/Duplicate and left click. Continue duplicating until you have 8 frames. Have the lightning tag open and go to View/Normal Viewing and click the Control and A keys to activate all the frames. Go to Edit/Copy.

Make the decorative frame image active and click the Control and A keys to activate all the frames and go to Edit/Paste into current frame. Holding down the left mouse button, paste the lightening tag into the very first frame and release the left mouse button.

Changing the Frame Properties

Right click Frame 1, go to Frame Properties, left click, and type in 50.

Right click Frame 3, go to Frame Properties, left click, and type in 30.

Leave all the other frames with a frame property of 10 (the default frame property).

Saving the Animation

Step 1
Before we save the animation, click the Customize button to make sure you have all the correct settings for this animation. You should see two tabs: Colors and Optimizations.

Here is what each setting should be under the two separate tabs:

Colors
255 Colors, Optimized Median Cut and Error Diffusion should be checked.

Optimizations
The middle three selections should be checked.
The top and bottom selections - unchecked.

After customizing the animation settings, click Ok and click Next and you will get the following screens:

Screen 1 Animation versus output Size - just click next.
Screen 2 Optimization process - just click next.
Screen 3 Optimization preview - just click next.
Screen 4 Optimization results - click finish.

Step 2
Save the file as a gif file (without text). You will later add text and resave so you can make additional tags for friends and forum/group members.

Adding Text from Animation Shop

Step 1
Have your animation open and make sure all the frames are activated (they will be surrounded by blue). If they are not, click the control and A Keys to activate all the frames.

Step 2
Open up a new transparent animation and type in your text in black. Go to Edit/Copy. Then go to Edit/Propagate Paste.

Step 3
Make your animation file active and go to Edit/Paste into selected frame. Holding down the left mouse button, place the text exactly where you want it in the very first frame. Release the mouse button and the text should now be in all the frames. Resave your animation with a new name.
